The Longest Hole / The Concept

Adam Rolston and Ron Rutland set the Guinness World Record for the longest golf hole ever played, trekking 1249 miles unsupported across the wilderness of Mongolia. Adam played every shot within the rules and the spirit of the game, set out by the R&A.

The pair began their journey from a makeshift tee box on the basecamp of Mongolia’s highest Mountain, at Mongolia’s most westerly point. From their, Adam and Ron played golf continuously through the extremely of the Northern Gobi and across the famous Steppe, to finish their World Record golf hole in the capital Ulaanbaatar, 80 days later.

In what numerous golf pundits describe as “the greatest golf adventure of all time”, the journey became partly about an unexpected third guest, a Mongolian wild dog named “U.B”, who serendipitously joined the expedition after day 2. The remarkable dog didn’t leave Adam and Ron’s side for the entire journey, showing incredible, love and spirit. U.B’s journey across Mongolia is truly one of the great canine feats of all time.

U.B / The Dog

The story of U.B the dog is truly one of the most incredible dog stories of all time. This wonderful dog began following the pair early on in the expedition. He eventually joined the Adam and Ron and became part of the team. He grew from a lost soul from the Altai Mountains, to a protector and guardian to his newly found friends, protecting the cart from unwanted guests and warding off dogs they came across along the way.

U.B showed that dogs are man’s best friend, demonstrating exceptional loyality and bravely. He walked over 2000km’s of Mongolia with Adam and Ron, a feat that has rarely been matched. U.B is a true Mongolian Nomad. We are so proud to have shared our journey with such a magnificent dog

The Mongolian People

Throughout the 80 day expedition, Adam and Ron were shown unrivalled hospitality by the Mongolian People. They Experienced the kindness, warmth and friendly curiosity (and heavy drinking of course!) of families, carving out an existence in the valleys and foothills of breathtaking mountains in the west, in the baking deserts of the northern Gobi desert and across the famous Steppe. Adam and Ron will never forget the people of Mongolia.

The 18th of Mt. Bodg Golf Club / The Finish

Adam and Ron completed the longest hole in the history of golf, 2011km (1249miles) long and hitting 20,093 shots.  The pair finished up the 18th hole at Mt. Bodg Golf Club in front of a large crowd and joined by friends and family.

With the pressure of a 3-putt ringing in Adam's mind for 12 weeks, he nervously holed an 8 footer down the hill for finish the epic adventure.

U.B completed this amazing adventure alongside Ron and Adam. He was an integral part of the journey across Mongolia.  This old dog is incredibly unique.  Not many dog's in recent history have walked so far. U.B is an old dog and a true Mongolian nomad,  it wouldn't have been fair on him to try and take him to Hong Kong.

With a stroke of luck, we were able to find U.B a beautiful home in the Terejl National park, just outside Ulaanbaator, where he has hung up his walking boots and will live out retirement in peace. He will always be in our hearts and memories as the world's most loyal dog.
